Broke Records has appointed Edward “Q” Brickell as its new head of legal affairs.
(December 11, 2025)
The independent label was founded by Andre Benz and Brandon De Oliveira, under Create Music Group.
A veteran music executive, entertainment attorney and longtime advocate for harm-reduction in live events, Brickell has more than 15 years of cross-industry experience spanning artists, labels, promoters and non-profits.
Brickell began his career by pioneering sober-support spaces at major US festivals, a concept embraced by Insomniac, SuperFly, C3 Events, Live Nation and AEG. He continues to serve on the board of Harmonium, which supports harm-reduction initiatives at dozens of festivals nationwide annually.
His management career included roles at Red Light Management and Cinder, contributing to the rise of acts such as William Black, Gammer and Illenium, including releases on Lowly, Broke’s predecessor, that reached the US dance charts.
As an attorney, he has represented promoters, artists, creatives, labels, and national non-profits, including End Overdose, where he oversees contracting for its 60-plus college chapters, industry partnerships, and thousands of annual live-event activations. Last year End Overdose was recognized by the White House for its national efforts.
“It means a great deal to join Broke Records and the Create Music Group family,” said Edward Brickell. “I’ve admired Andre for nearly a decade, and from the moment I stepped into this role it felt like the right place to be. My mission is to make legal a true service that functions for our artists, because transparent agreements that support their long-term success is paramount. If we can build systems that meet the pace of today’s music industry, we give artists more freedom to create and thrive. That way, everybody wins.”
“Edward Q Brickell is an incredible addition to our team,” said Andre Benz, co-founder and CEO of Broke. “The culture of the company is centered around creative thinking, efficiency, urgency, and servicing our roster day in and out. Edward represents this at the highest level and we’re thrilled to have him take this approach leading our legal department now.”
Founded in 2023, Broke Records is an independent record label, publisher and distributor headquartered in New York City.
The label has achieved 5 RIAA gold certifications and generated over 30 billion streams on Spotify in two years. The roster includes bbno$, $not, Sevdaliza, Sosocamo, RJ Pasin, Zhu, Marino, IDK and rising stars across all genres.
